Senate Approves SB 2121 or Magna Carta for Poor
MAGNA CARTA – The Senate recently approved the Senate Bill No. 2121 or the Magna Carta for the Poor.
The pursuit of the country leaders to help the poor Filipinos and the marginalized Filipinos attain a good living situation continues. Recently, a bill in favor of the poor was granted approval.

Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, the Senate approved the Senate Bill No. 2121 or the Magna Carta for the Poor.
It seeks to provide adequate access to the poor Filipinos and the marginalized Filipinos when it comes to food most especially during the times of natural calamities.
If approved into a law, it would require the government to sustain feeding programs. According to the report, the bill also seeks to provide adequate access to the poor with regards to basic services such as health services.
Aside from the SB No. 2121, the Senate also approved the Senate Bill No. 2159 which seeks the creation of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
The bill was approved without abstention and opposition gaining 12 votes. Based on the report, if approved into law, it would mandate the creation of the NCSC that would cater to the concerns of the senior citizens.
Furthermore, it would also mandate the abolition of the National Coordinating and Monitoring Board. The NCSC would be composed of a chairperson and six(6) commissioners and will be under the President’s Office.
