Fisherman Left Floating in Water for 12 Hours Due to Capsized Banca in Misamis Oriental

CAPSIZED BANCA – A fisherman aging 73-years-old was left floating in the water of Misamis Oriental after their banca capsized.

Fishing may sound exciting but behind it is the every day risks that fishermen have to go through to be able to bring food to their tables for the whole family.

Most often, fishermen board small boats or banca when they go for fishing. Undeniably, these vehicles can be easily turned by water most especially during the bad weather or when the waves are huge and strong.

That is what two fishermen from Jasaan, Misamis Oriental recently experienced. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the huge waves caused their banca to capsize bringing them both to the water.

The men were identified as Henry Gabitano, 73 years old, and his brother-in-law, Jonel Tajuda. Their capsized banca left the former fisherman floating in water for 12 hours while the latter sought for help.

The incident happened in the waters covered by Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. With the help of the banca, Tajuda was able to reach Tagoloan and seek help to rescue his 73-year-old brother-in-law who was left floating in the water.

They were able to rescue Gabitano who was almost hopeless. According to the fisherman, he thought that he could no longer make it until morning if no one comes to rescue him as he already suffers backpains.

The family of the two fishermen were thankful that they both survived. Based on the report, despite what happened, Gabitano is still decided to continue fishing once he gains back his energy as it is their source of living.
