The Philippines have a high H-2B overstay rate due to the workers not returning to the Philippines despite their contract finished unless he/she is involved or a victim of human trafficking.

The H-2A is a temporary visa for foreign workers who provide agricultural services, while H-2B are for foreign non-agricultural workers.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said that “the DHS and the Department of State (DOS) are concerned about the high volume of trafficking victims from the Philippines who were originally issued H-2B visas,”

The DHS further said that the issuance of H-2A and H-2B visas were considered a potential means that may be used to perform human trafficking from the Philippines.

According to Bombo Radyo, the Malacañang Palace recently reacted to the DHS notice, saying that they respect the action of the DHS.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that it is not in their place to meddle with the decision of the US to ban the Pinoy workers.

As per the report, Panelo further added that the workers had to face the consequences according to the law if they have violated. He further clarified that the government will not tolerate if there are instances of abuse or discrimination against Filipino workers currently in the US.
