Mayor Erap Estrada Orders Temporary Closure of Manila Zoo
MANILA ZOO TEMPORARY CLOSURE – Former Philippine President and now Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada ordered the temporary closure of the zoo in his city.
The pursuit to save the environment continues. Following the temporary closure and rehabilitation of Boracay Island, the Manila Bay is next in line and the authorities are working on it already.
Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has approved the proposed 7-year rehabilitation of Manila Bay and Pres. Duterte even warned the hotels to have water treatments or they will be shut down.
Speaking at the Barangay Summit in Pasay City, the President also added that Filipinos will not die if tourists won’t go to the Philippines.
Recently, in line with the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay, the temporary closure of the Manila Zoo is ordered by former President and now Manila Mayor Erap Estrada.
Based on a recent social media post on the Twitter page of Manila Bulletin, the order came after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) tagged the zoo as the major pollutant to the bay.
According to the post, the zoo lacks Sewage Treatment Plan (STP). The closure is for the purpose of “proper assessment and study”.
