Pres. Duterte Gives Warning to Hotels in line with Manila Bay Rehabilitation
MANILA BAY REHABILITATION – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave a warning to the hotels near the Manila Bay in line with the 7-year rehabilitation of the bay.
Under the Duterte Administration, the pursuit to save the natural environment goes on. Last year, one of the Philippines’ top tourist destinations, Boracay Island, was closed for rehabilitation.
It was Pres. Duterte who ordered the closure of Boracay which was placed under 6-month rehabilitation. It was opened to the public in October 2018 but not all establishments were allowed to operate.
Following the rehabilitation of Boracay is the Manila Bay rehabilitation which was recently approved by Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It was proposed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the Manila Bay rehabilitation will start on January 27, 2019. Pres. Duterte has given a warning to hotels near the bay.
Speaking at the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order held in Pasay City, the 73-year-old President expressed that hotels should have water treatments or they will be shut down.
“Kung wala tayong turista dito, hindi naman tayo mamamatay,” the President added.
Based on the report, in line with the Manila Bay rehabilitation, Pres. Duterte expressed that hotels should do something or they will be surely closed.
According to the DENR, the stakeholders like the local government units and the NGO’s would meet next week to talk about the rehabilitation of the bay.
Based on the report, DENR Under Secretary Benny Antiporda expressed that there will be “serious operations” meaning they are planning to shut down the establishments that are polluting the bay.
“We’ll gonna send a strong message on the 27 that everybody should shape up, or else, we will shut you down,” the DENR Usec. added.
