BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court Fires CA Security Guard, Forfeits Retirement Benefits

CA Security Guard Fired by Supreme Court, His Retirement Benefits Forfeited

SUPREME COURT – The Supreme Court fired a security guard of the Court of Appeals (CA) and forfeited his retirement benefits.

In any workplace, a worker or an employee is expected to file for a leave in cases of absence due to certain reasons or at least inform the office or company regarding the matter.

Leaving your post without notice or using a fictitious reason to justify an absence may lead to something serious like a termination from the job. That is what happened to a security guard of a Court of Appeals.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Supreme Court has recently released a ruling dismissing CA Security Guard Enrique E. Manabat Jr. and forfeiting his retirement benefits.

According to the report, it is stated in the 7-page decision released by the Supreme Court that Manabat was found “guilt of gross neglect of duty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service”.

The CA guard who’s in service for 17 years went on an absence without leave from November 19, 2017 to November 22, 2017. Furthermore, it is also stated in the statement that the guard allegedly lied.

In the statement, the SC reportedly stated the CA Security Guard committed a lie when he said he attended a scheduled physical therapy. The therapy was allegedly done at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

For his part, Manabat claimed that he received an emergency call to fetch a Typhoon Yolanda victim relative when he was about to return to his post from the physical therapy schedule.

However, according to SC, the records of the PGH showed that Manabat never went to the physical therapy appointment.

Based on the report, aside from his dismissal from his post and the forfeiting of his retirement benefits, the guard is also charged of Simple Neglect of Duty.
