A pregnant Irrawaddy dolphin has been found dead after struck by speeding boat in Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City Negros Occidental.

Bago City, Negros Occidental – the residents found a dead Irrawaddy dolphin at Brgy. Sampinit and discovered that it was pregnant.

On Tuesday morning (January 15, 2019), Marine biologist Mark De la Paz and his team of biologist, Dr. Andrea Barcelona and Ms. La Vera Sombito of USLS revisited the site at Bago City to conduct necropsy.

De la Paz got devastated and broken hearted after watching how the sea creature suffered a tragic accident.

The dolphin suffered broken ribs and about to give birth to its baby before the mom dolphin was struck by a speeding boat.

The Facebook user Danilo Hassan Pahilanga uploaded the photos of the dead dolphin and suggested to strictly implement of slow-boat zone at the marine protected area.

Pahilanga also recommends the observance of gear regulations, monitoring of gill nets and solid waste management.

Irrawaddy dolphins are already considered as endangered species because of its decreasing population.
