Davao Oriental Hit by Earthquake with 5.9 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.9 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental this morning, January 16, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the latest quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Recently, Phivolcs recorded another quake in a part of Davao Oriental. At 04:03:20 in the morning today, January 16, 2019, Davao Oriental was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located 05.68°N, 126.67°E – 127 km S 32° E of Governor Generoso. The quake was tectonic in origin and it has a 114 km.
Intensity I was felt in Cebu City, T’boli, and South Cotabato while Intensity II was felt in Davao City, General Santos City, Kiamba, Sarangani, Kidapawan City, Gingoog City, and Tupi.
According to Phivolcs, Intensity III was felt in Alabel and Sarangani.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that there is no expected damage but aftershocks are expected.
