DFA Assures Family of Maldives Couple of Assistance
MALDIVES COUPLE – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) assured the family of Leomer and Erika Joyce Lagradilla, the couple who was drowned in Maldives, of assistance.
Two Filipinos recently died of drowning in Maldives. The incident went viral on the social media and left a lot of people saddened by what happened to the newly-wed.

The Maldives couple was staying in a resort in Dhiffushi Island and they were snorkeling when the incident happened. They were brought to the nearest local hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Around Php 1.2 million is needed to bring home the bodies of the couple and the family and friends of Leomer and Erika asked for donations. The bestfriends of the couple put up a fundraising campaign.
Lots of people extended their help to the couple before the fundraising campaign was stopped following a positive outcome of the talk between the DFA and the couple’s family.
Today, the parents of the Maldives couple went to DFA and met with Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. over the repatriation of the remains of Leomer and Erika.
Based on a recent report on GMA News, the DFA Secretary expressed his condolences to the family of the couple and assured them of assistance from the department.
In a statement, DFA expressed that the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka which has the jurisdiction over Maldives was sent an order to coordinate with the authorities there for the bringing home of the remains of the couple.
