Weird Sea Creature Found Dead in Tacloban

A weird sea creature has been found dead in Tacloban City, which was believed died due to extreme starvation and parasitism.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office made a statement saying that a melon-headed whale (Peponecephala electra) was spotted near the Alimasag Fisherman area in Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City.

The 2.5-meter long sea creature has died two days after it was washed ashore at the Cancabato Bay.

The whale has been found on December 28, 2018 and was brought to the Fishery Law Enforcement Team of the Tacloban city government on December 29, 2018.

The marine mammal was released again to the Cancabato Bay after its respiration becomes normal.

Unfortunately, the whale got stranded near the shore of Leyte Park Hotel and at the old Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban.

Fisheries Protection and Law Enforcement Group (FPLEG) brought the whale to BFAR Coastal Resource Management Center in Barangay Diit for care.

On December 30, 2018, the melon-headed whale refused to eat and began to breathe rapidly then died around 12:30 am.

The sea creature died because of starvation and parasitism according to the necropsy report.
