Usman May Intensify Into Tropical Storm Before Hitting Eastern Samar, PAGASA Says

The state weather bureau PAGASA announced that Tropical Depression Usman may intensify into a tropical storm before making a landfall over eastern Samar.

On Friday (December 28, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest updates regarding Tropical Depression Usman.

Usman has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and 65 kph moving west-northwest at 10 kph.

However, the weather disturbance could intensify into a tropical storm before hitting eastern Samar.

After eastern Samar, the tropical depression will also cross Leyte, Panay Island, Sulu Sea, Palawan, and the West Philippine Sea.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was still raised in the following areas:

  • Northern Palawan including Calamian group of Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • Southern Quezon
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • Catanduanes
  • Camarines Sur
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands
  • Southern Occidental Mindoro
  • Southern Oriental Mindoro
  • Cuyo
  • Eastern Samar
  • Northern Samar
  • Samar
  • Biliran
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Northern Cebu including Camotes Islands
  • Aklan
  • Capiz
  • Iloilo
  • Guimaras
  • Antique
  • Northern Negros Occidental
  • Dinagat Island

The Visayas, Bicol, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon would experience moderate to heavy rain.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa were also expected to experience light to heavy rain.

The weather agency also warned the public to take precautionary measures for possible flashfloods and landslides.
