Based on a report from Inquirer, this actually translates that the godparent is poor as well and they could not give anything for the kid.

The line that is very “iconic”. Almost all the kids have heard this alibi from their Ninong and Ninangs.

Godparents tricked their godchild not to go out their houses because somebody will abduct them. Technically, they just don’t want to see their godchild on their doorstep asking for gifts.
