Mayor And Vice Mayor From Abra Town Suspended For Dishonesty Regarding Road Project
ABRA – The mayor and vice mayor of Lagayan town in the province of Abra were suspended for six months due to dishonesty regarding a road project.
According to the resolution of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, which was released on Friday, Jendricks Luna and his wife Joy Chrisma, who are mayor and vice mayor, respectively, were found guilty for dishonesty and grave misconduct for reporting that a 1,740 meter-road somewhere in Barangay Ba-i had been completed amidst the fact that the construction barely even started.
Last August , councilor Noel Cortez filed a complaint before the provincial board, noting that the said project, which its funding came from the town’s internal revenue allotment, remained “a pebble and dirt road.”
A report from PhilStar states that the provincial engineering office, which conducted an inspection, said it found the road with an “earth surface”, implying that it is exactly as what Cortez reported. The board concluded that Luna’s report is a “blatant lie and a clear act of dishonesty, which warrants administrative penalty.”
Furthermore, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan said that Luna’s wife vice mayor should also be held liable, noting that the project and its funding was approved due to the reason that she was the presiding officer of the Sangguniang Bayan.
As per the report, when the STAR contacted Luna, he gave no comment as he has not read the decision.
