DepEd Says Public Teachers Required to Report for Work During Christmas Vacation

The Department of Education (DepEd) said that the public teachers might be still required to report for work during Christmas vacation.

On Saturday (December 8, 2018), the Education Department stated that the school teachers might be required to report for duty from December 16 to 22, 2018.

DepEd reiterated that their statement was based on its Order No. 53, s. 2003 requiring the teachers to work during the given period of time.

“Teachers may still be required to report and render services from December 16 to 22 in the exigency of public service,” DepEd said.

The recent statement released by DepEd came after the issuance of its Order No. 49, series of 2018–or “Amendments to DepEd Order No. 25, s. 2018 stating that elementary and high school teachers may start their Christmas break on Dec 18.

Christmas Vacation

Public school teachers must follow these following conditions for their attendance during Christmas break:

  • The school head must submit the letter request to the teacher’s respective school division (SDO).
  • Sufficient justification is given to establish that the requirements of public service occur.
  • Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) must approve the letter request.
