Rollback Implemented By LTFRB Only Covers Jeepney Fares

Bus, Taxi, And UV Express Fares Were Not Covered By Rollback Implemented By LTFRB

ROLLBACK – The LTFRB said on Tuesday (Dec. 4) that the implemented rollback only covers jeepney fares, thus, excluding taxi, bus, and UV express vehicles.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, as directed by the Department of Transportation, lowered the minimum jeepney fare by ₱1 in view of declining prices of fuel.

The implemented rollback covers the first four kilometers of PUJ routes for the National Capital Region, and Regions 3 and 4. The said order is reported to take effect immediately after a publication in the national daily.

This is also in line of Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade’s previous order for the LTFRB to make a formula-driven matrix for fare adjustments. The implementation is scheduled to proceed this Tuesday (December 4).

That being said, LTFRB clarified that the reduction of ₱1 in the minimum fare does not cover taxis, buses, and UV express vehicles. LTFRB Executive Director Samuel Jardin said that this only applies to Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ).

A report in GMA News states that the reason why this was only implemented to PUJs is because the capitalization of PUJ is lower compared to taxis and buses, in which these buy gasoline and diesel from bulk, a reason why taxis and buses earn a discount, says Jardin.

With the publication of the resolution, the ₱10 fare matrix, as revealed by Jardin, is considered lifted.

As per the report, Jardin lastly said that there is a reduction, in which this is what we will follow.
