Rappler’s Maria Ressa Posts Bail, Breaks Silence on Tax Evasion Charges Against Her

MARIA RESSA OF RAPPLER POSTS BAIL – Rappler’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Editor Maria Ressa posted a bail and broke her silence on the charges against her.

Currently, Maria Ressa is faced with tax evasion charges. It was just recently when the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 265 released an arrest warrant against the Rappler CEO.

The arrest warrant against Ressa was penned by Judge Danilo A. Buemio. It ordered the law enforcers to arrest the Rappler CEO over the alleged violation of National Internal Revenue Code’s Section 255.

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is allowed to post a bail. It was fixed at an amount of Php 60,000.00. For her bail, her camp may deposit to a municipal, city, or provincial official or to the internal revenue office.

Based on a recent report on Rappler, Maria Ressa has already posted a bail of Php 60,000.00 at the Pasig Court. She reportedly did it without waiving her right to question the jurisdiction of the court.

The Rappler CEO has broken her silence on the issue through a statement. According to the report, her camp believes that the charges against her are “politically-motivated”.

Ressa stated that she voluntarily surrendered to the court and went through the process.

Based on the report, the tax evasion case against Maria Ressa is just one of the five (5) tax cases filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the Rappler CEO and the Rappler Holdings Corp.

Four (4) of the said tax charges were reportedly filed by the DOJ before the Court of Tax Appeals on November 26 and 28 while the other case was filed before the Pasig Court Branch 265.
