Iloilo Residents Requested PECO Franchise Loss, Business Tycoon Enriquez Razon Says

The business tycoon Enriquez Rason Jr revealed that the Iloilo residents allegedly requested the PECO franchise loss to More Electric and Power Corp.

The allegedly poor quality service of the Panay Electric Company (PECO) in Iloilo City gives way for More Electric and Power Corp. to receive a franchise from the House of Representatives and the Senate.

More Electric and Power Corp will be the new power distribution company that will supply electricity in Iloilo City.

Enriquez Rason Jr, the head of More Electric and Power Corp. was claiming that the Ilonggos have suffered four decades of poor services, overcharging, wrong meter readings, high electricity rate, and frequent brownouts under PECO.

Razon said that More wouldn’t have the opportunity to get a franchise if PECO was giving a good quality service to the consumers.

“If PECO had been doing a good job, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to apply for this franchise and transform it into a modern, efficient, low cost and state-of-the-art distribution network.PECO is no. 20 in the list of distribution utilities in the Philippines, an indication of poor performance. Given that its franchise area is a compact and contiguous urban area, it should have been in the top 5 or top 10” Razon said.

He also revealed that PECO has the highest electricity rate in the country for charging P2.50/kilowatt hour to the consumers.

PECO was allegedly using poor quality facilities including rotten electrical posts, unsafe clearances of electrical wirings, substations, and transformers as well as undersized and crowded feeders,
