Commissioner Rey Guerrero Confirms 20 Customs Officials Resigned
20 CUSTOMS OFFICIALS RESIGNED – Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero confirmed that 20 officials of the BOC have left their posts.
Previously, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has decided to temporarily place the Bureau of Customs under military control. It is in line with his pursuit to clean the bureau from corruption.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has taken the BOC control with AFP Chief-of-Staff Rey Guerrero being the Customs commissioner.
Former Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña was transferred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). He is now facing graft over the 105 missing containers under his leadership of the BOC.
It was the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) which filed the graft charges against Lapeña and another unnamed person. Aside from it, the NBI suggested that the former BOC chief would face charges over neglect of duty.
Recently, another news report about the BOC has crossed the surface.
According to Remate, BOC Commissioner Rey Guerrero confirmed that 20 Customs officials resigned last week.
The said confirmation reportedly happened after the flag-raising ceremony in BOC. The Customs commissioner did not name the officials who recently left their posts.
Based on the report, Guerrero clarified that his leadership is not the reason why 20 Customs officials resigned. According to the AFP Chief-of-Staff, it is a normal event for officials to leave their posts whenever someone new is tasked to be in control.
Furthermore, he also expressed that it is to give way for new programs and reforms to be implemented under the new leadership.
Guerrero reportedly made it clear that he will not appoint people to replace the 20 resigned Customs officials in their posts. Based on the report, he assured that he will just fix the system in the Bureau.
