Do Bullying Victims Could Get Financial Compensation?

A social media post claiming that bullying victims could sue the offender and get financial compensation from them garnered various reactions online.

Nowadays, bullying or discriminations have been one of the major problems experienced by children, teenagers, and even adults.

The government also set groups and organizations helping the victims of bullying to recover from their dark experiences.

Recently, the Facebook page “ABias-CBN News” shared a post claiming that a bullying victim could get financial compensation.

The social media post shows that bullying victims could sue a bully and even get a financial compensation from them, which was allegedly stated in RA10627.

Republic Act 10627 was also known as “An act requiring all elementary and secondary schools to adopt policies to prevent and address the acts of bullying in their institutions.”

The post has a caption of:

“Mag open ka na ng bank account.. Dahil sigurado yayaman ka dito!”

However, RA10627 did not state the bullying victims could receive a financial compensation.

Senator Sonny Angara, one of the law authors even called the claim as fake news.

“This is indeed a fake news. RA 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Law DOES NOT allow people to demand P15,000 payment or file a case against those who call them fat or overweight,” Shielo Mendoza, Angara’s media relations officer said.
