Spiral Staircase In Edsa-Ortigas Footbridge Entices Negative Reaction

Spiral Staircase In A Footbridge From Edsa-Ortigas Lambasted Because It’s Ineffective

SPIRAL STAIRCASE – A spiral staircase located on a footbridge in Edsa-Ortigas is slammed by pedestrians as it is “nauseatic” and “ineffective”.

Many pedestrians gave negative feedback on the said staircase. Some say it feels dizzy and nonstrategic; while others say it’s hard due to how spiral it is.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager Jojo Garcia explained that because the space is limited, the engineer decided to make a spiral stairway as for the engineer, it’s more effective and it reduce the risk of accidents.

A report from GMA News states that the staircase was built in 2008 as an unloading zone for passengers who rode the provincial bus. However, this was also used as a loading zone for the passengers who wants to ride the provincial buses.

Garcia expressed that it’s not allowed to load as it is an unloading zone. He further added that the passengers should have no reason to descend since it’s not a loading zone.

As per the report, the MMDA decided to take down the staircase if ever they decide to remove the provincial bus terminals in EDSA-Ortigas.

Meanwhile, last Sunday, a footbridge in EDSA-Kamuning was criticized for how tall it is. The MMDA admitted that the footbridge is really not for everyone.
