Weather Update: Habagat or Southwest Monsoon winds weakening.

WEATHER UPDATE – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announces the termination of Habagat.

The calendar is now on its final quarter which means that the weather in the country will strong winds until the end of the year.

And recently, as per the announcement of PAGASA, cooler days are coming as the Habagat season ends.

The announcement was made on October 5, Thursday.

Weather Update

As per bulletin from the weather state bureau, “Recent analyses showed a significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds over the last few days. With this development, the southwest monsoon season or known as “Habagat” has ended.”

Moreover, “Moreover, the strengthening of the high pressure systems over the Asian continent suggests the gradual transition of the season. This pattern will lead to the beginning of the northeast monsoon “Amihan” season in the coming days.”

Habagat or the Summer Monsoon (West or southwest) is “characterized by a strong, generally West or southwest breeze that is responsible for bringing significant rainfall to the Asian subcontinent and to South and East Asia.”

Meanwhile, Amihan or the Winter Monsoon (North or northeast) “features a generally less strong, East or northeast breeze that is cool and dry (compared to the Summer Monsoon weather) with prolonged periods of successive cloudless days.”
