UP President Signs Proclamation No. 1 Declaring September 21 As Day of Remembrance

UP President Danilo Concepcion declared September 21 as a Day of Remembrance in commemorating the day wherein Martial Law was announced in the country.

On Monday (September 17, 2018), Danilo Concepcion, the president of the University of the Philippines signed the Proclamation No. 1 honoring the university’s effort to fight Martial Law.

Concepcion declares September 21 as a Day of Remembrance, the date that late dictator Ferdinand Marcos placed the country under Martial Law in 1972.

The proclamation states the alleged negative effects of Martial Law in the Philippines leading to abuse of power and authority.

The UP president said that the UP heroes of resistance deserved to be remembered for fighting dictatorship.

Danilo also served as the president of Kabataang Barangay Federation in Metro Manila but earned criticisms after attending Kabataang Barangay Reunion at UP including Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.

Later, the UP head apologized for the incident and promised that UP community would never forget the dark period of the Philippines under martial law.
