President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 16, 2018, as a special non-working holiday over six provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Malacañang Palace declared Monday (July 16) as a special holiday throughout all the provinces of CAR including Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and the cities of Tabuk and Baguio City.

Mr. Duterte made the holiday proclamation to give way for the celebration of CAR’s 31st founding anniversary as an administrative region.

On Thursday (July 12, 2018), Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the Proclamation No. 356 stating

“it is but fitting and proper that the people of CAR be given full opportunity to celebrate and actively participate in the celebration of the region’s founding anniversary with fitting and appropriate ceremonies.”

On July 15, 1987, CAR was founded after former President Cory Aquino signed the Executive Order No. 220 into law.
