Worth P8.1 Billion Public Barangay Health Station Project Scam Revealed
The alleged irregularities on the P8.1 billion public barangay health station project of DOH nationwide has been finally revealed.
The Department of Health (DOH) allegedly committed irregularities in implementing the construction of about 5,700 barangay health stations in public schools nationwide.
The 8.1 billion contract for the project was signed by former secretary Janette Garin, according to DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III.
“I am dismayed and in disbelief over the volume of irregular transactions happening at the department ….. Heads will roll. Big names, small names, past and present. There will be no sacred cows,” Duque said quoted by MSN.
Duque said that J. Bros. Construction, the contractor of the project filed the termination contract of Phase 1 of the project and charged the DOH with P2.9 billion for 429 units.
The DOH secretary said that DOH, Department of Education and Department of the Interior and Local Government did not validate the project sites.
The department secretary described the anomaly as wide since officials in various positions were involved.
He also said that DOH has requested Commission on Audit (COA) Chairman Michael Aguinaldo to conduct a “fraud audit” of the project and investigate the matter.
“We will file cases… We are getting legal advice from COA and the ombudsman for a case buildup,” Duque added.
Undersecretary Roger Tong-an who was heading a task force found out that only eight (8) out of 270 health stations were completed and have supporting documents.
