Environmental Group Warns Public On School Supplies Containing Harmful Chemicals

An environment group has warned the public regarding the school supplies containing toxic chemicals, which is harmful to the body’s health.

The watch group EcoWaste Coalition has warned the public to be more careful in purchasing school supplies, which allegedly contains harmful substances.

The school supplies were reportedly containing cadmium and lead that could harm the consumer’s health especially young children.

The EcoWaste Coalition made the precautionary measures due to the upcoming opening of public schools on June 04, 2018.

On Thursday (May 24, 2018), during a press conference in Quezon City, the group said that some school supplies in the market might cause harm to the students’ health.

The group examined several school supplies in Manila and found out that some materials have high cadmium and lead content.

The school supplies; Artex Fine Water Colors (yellow cake), MPC Classique Water Colors (yellow cake) and Fairyland Crayons (orange stick) contain 22,300, 5,500 and 200 parts per million (ppm) of lead, which exceeds the 90 ppm regulatory limit.

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has already prohibited the selling of the products mentioned above but it can still be found in the market.
