KIKO PANGILINAN – Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan named the people including an actress who are being considered for the ‘resistance slate’ of the Liberal Party for the 2019 senatorial elections.
In the previous years, the Liberal Party is the supermajority in the Senate. When former Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte of PDP-Laban won as president of the Philippines, the number of LP members started to decrease.
Currently, the president of the LP is Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, the husband of actress-singer Sharon Cuneta based on a report. He has recently revealed that their party is going to form a ‘resistance slate’ for the senatorial elections for the year 2019.
Based on a recent report in Rappler, speaking to Karen Davila on Headstart, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan revealed that the Liberal Party and Vice President Leni Robredo, the chairman of LP, are currently on the process of choosing the people who will be part of the slate.
Reportedly, twelve senate seats are to be filled through the upcoming election. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan admitted that they need to work with other groups for the said ‘resistance slate’ for the 2019 senatorial election.
Among the groups that the LP will be talking to are the Magdalo Group, the Kaya Natin which is a civic organization, the Akbayan, and the Tindig Pilipinas.
According to the report, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan revealed the names of the people who are considered for the ‘resistance slate’ for the 2019 senatorial election.
The LP President expressed that they are Sen. Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, Atty. Jose Manuel ‘Chel’ Diokno, Liberal Party internal affairs Vice President Lorenzo ‘Erin’ Tañada III, former Akbayan Representative Barry Gutierrez, and Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano.
Actress Agot Isidro is also one of those considered to be part of the ‘resistance slate’. However, Sen. Pangilinan admitted that they are still in the process of “convincing” the actress.
Based on the report, in the same event, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan clarified that they were not communicating with Kris Aquino for an elective post. He also revealed that former presidential candidate Mar Roxas has turned down the idea of running for the 2019 elections.
Roxas is one of those who ran for president during the 2016 national elections. He was second to Pres. Duterte in the counting and he was followed by Sen. Grace Poe, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, and the late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
