De la Paz said that the sightings of Irrawaddy dolphin in the area gives them hope that their very small population could grow a little bit.

“This brings a glimmer of hope to their very small population, which was estimated to be between 9 to 19 in the Guimaras Strait,” De la Paz quoted by Inquirer.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature declared Irrawaddy dolphins are among the endangered species.

The researcher is hoping that the few numbers of the endangered species could survive because they are the most vulnerable sea creatures.
