Philippines Might Possibly File Protest Against China’s Latest Activity
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the Philippines might possibly file a protest against China’s latest activity.
Roque says that the Philippines is now considering the possibility of filing a diplomatic protest against China’s latest activity in Panganiban Reef.
The Philippine government also found out that Chinese military transport planes have landed on Panganiban Reef or internationally known as ‘Mischief Reef’, which is under the 370-kilometer exclusive economic zone of the country.
However, the government will first check if its new ally violates an internal obligation, according to Roque.
The experts warned that it could be China’s precedent in sending more aircraft to its man-made islands in the disputed waters.
Last Wednesday (April 18, 2018), National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said that he would prioritize the country’s internal security problems than the territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
“To me, my priority is to strengthen the country from within,” Esperon said quoted by Inquirer.
Esperon does not consider the landing of Chinese military plane on Panganiban Reef a threat to the Philippines.
