Phivolcs Warns Public About Earthquake Occurrence Predictions

The state seismology agency Phivolcs has warned the public regarding the earthquake occurrence predictions in the social media.

On Friday (April 13, 2018), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has posted on their Twitter page warning the netizens regarding social media post predicting earthquakes.

Phivolcs explained that as of now there are still no reliable equipment or apparatus that can accurately predict the exact time and location of impending earthquakes.

Earthquake Occurrence Predictions

“We cannot predict when or where an earthquake will happen. There is no reliable technology in the world that can confidently predict the date, time and location of large earthquakes,” Phivolcs wrote in their post.

The volcanology agency has also urged the public to avoid sharing misleading information causing fear and panic among residents.

The Philippines sits at the Pacific Ring of Fire where most the world’s earthquake and volcano eruptions usually occur.
