MMDA Plans To Arrest Abusive Motorists Like ‘Helmet Girl’

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now planning to implement citizen’s arrest for abusive motorists like ‘Helmet Girl’.

An MMDA official said that the agency would soon implement citizen’s arrest aiming to arrest abusive motorists.

MMDA Task Force Special Operations supervisor Edison Nebrija explained that they could arrest abusive motorists trying to assault an agent in authority.

Nebrija together with the MMDA’s legal department held a conference last week discussing the road rage incident where a motorcycle passenger identified as Chezka Bautista dubbed as ‘Helmet Girl’ assaulted traffic enforcers.

Bautista and her boyfriend were apprehended by the enforcers along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City for not wearing her helmet and using it as a food container.

Helmet Girl allegedly cursed and assaulter one the enforcers with her helmet while taking a video footage of the incident.

The MMDA executive explained that the agency was still gathering further details and information from the enforcers who witnessed the incident.

Slight physical injuries and assault upon an agent of a person in authority would be charged against Bautista, while the driver’s license of her boyfriend would be revoked.

“We were told that the very time a threat has been hurled at any agent of a person in authority, you can employ citizen’s arrest,” Nebrija said quoted by Philstar.

He also explained that the MMDA traffic enforcers still need to undergo training on how to implicate proper way in arresting abusive motorists.
