Volcanic Material Spewed By Mayon Volcano Can Already Fill 13k Olympic-Sized Swimming Pools

The volcanic material spewed by the Mayon Volcano is enough to fill about 13, 000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

On Thursday (February 01, 2018), Ed Laguerta, chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology in Bicol said that flow of lava from Mt. Mayon continues.

The amount of the volcanic materials spewed by the volcano is already about 32.7 million cubic meters, which can already fill 13, 000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Laguerta warned the residents that the pyroclastic flow on the volcano’s river channels can flow near the communities if heavy rain pours down.

The operations of Legazpi international Airport has been temporarily canceled due to the current situation of Mayon Volcano.

Meanwhile, the eruption of Mt. Mayon has boosted the tourism in Albay of up to 25 percent for the month of January due to the volume of tourists who visited the province to see the volcano.
