PHIVOLCS Confirms Lahar Found Near Mayon Volcano,  Irregularities Also Spotted In Mt. Kanlaon & Bulusan

The state volcanology agency PHIVOLCS has confirmed it found lahar near the Mayon Volcano and detects irregularities over Mt. Kanlaon and Bulusan.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has confirmed it found lahar over Mi-isi and Budiao channel crossing two towns in Albay.

PHIVOLCS Executive Director Renato Solidum said that Mi-isi channel contains most of pyroclastic density flow deposit flow since the beginning of the eruption.

The Mi-isi and Budiao channel are located across the border of Camalig and Daraga, which are the areas closest to the volcano.

The volcanology agency also warned the resident living near the affected area of possible lahar as the province has started to experience heavy rains.

“These deposits can be remobilized by rainwater and generate lahars by themselves and/or by incorporating existing erodible material on channel banks,” Phivolcs said quoted by CNN.

Also on Sunday, Phivolcs also recorded at least five volcanic earthquakes in Kanlaon Volcano in Negros, which is raised in alert level 2.

Meanwhile, Mt. Bulusan is currently under the alert level 1, which could possibly cause phreatic eruptions.

However, Solidum said that the activities happening in Mt. Kanlaon and Bulusan are not connected with Mayon Volcano.
