Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang Suspended Over Grave Misconduct, Grave Dishonesty Charges
Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang is currently under suspension due to alleged grave misconduct and grave dishonesty.
Carandang has been placed under 90 days preventive suspension after the Office of the Executive Secretary has filed charges of grave misconduct and grave dishonesty, according to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
The deputy ombudsman has been charged with grave dishonesty over disclosing misleading information and misusing confidential information, which violates Republic Act 3019, Section 3e or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Melchor claims that his office allegedly received the records from Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), which was used by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against President Duterte accusing of having hidden riches.
However, AMLC denied that the council has received the documents and information used by Trillanes on his accusations against Mr. Duterte, according to Roque.
“It has neither provided the Office of the Ombudsman with any report as a consequence of any investigation of subject accounts for any purpose,” AMLC secretariat said quoted by Philstar.
Roque also said that the deputies are subject to disciplinary actions by President Duterte while ombudsman is the only impeachable.
