Patricia Licuanan Resigns From Her Position As CHED Chairman

Patricia Licuanan, the chairman of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has resigned from her position during the flag-raising ceremony.

On Monday (January 15, 2017), during CHED’s flag-raising ceremony, Patricia Licuanan has announced her resignation from being the chairman of the commission.

Licuana’s resignation came on the day administration-allied Iligan Representative Frederick Siao will deliver his speech and filing a resolution to launch an investigation regarding the alleged delay on releasing the allowances of over 9, 500 government scholars.

Previously, Siao advised Licuanan to make an honorable exit from the commission over the controversy.

The CHED chairman also admitted the issues regarding the delay of the scholar’s allowance because of delay in submitting their requirements to CHED.

PBA Representative Jericho Nograles and a majority lawmaker accused Licuanan of having excessive trips last year without securing Malacañang’s permission.

However, Licuanan explained that her 8 trips were trips were important because it was still a part of the commission’s mandate to help secure a different scholarship and other opportunities for Filipino students.

The CHED executive also refused to submit her resignation even the Duterte administration has issued a memorandum urging the officials appointed by Aquino administration to resign from their positions.

She has been also barred to attend Cabinet meeting and also faced opposition within the commission.
