Ica Policarpio’s family finally releases an official statement.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT – The family of the lost teenager Ica Policarpio has finally released an official statement denying her participation in 48-hour challenge.
Recalling, the 17-year-old Ica Policarpio has been announced missing at 10:53 pm last Thursday, December 21, in Muntinlupa City.
Due to her disappearance, her siblings turned to social media for some help of finding her. Eventually, she had been found in San Pablo, Laguna on Sunday morning, December 24.
In the official statement of the family of Ica as posted by Bea Policarpio on Facebook, they have clarified that her disappearance is “out of deep emotional distress” and was never a prank.

Accordingly, the reasons for her distress are numerous and private.
“She is still being evaluated medically, and it is our family’s sole responsibility to understand what has caused her to carry so much pain not just in the recent past, but apparently, for several months, and even years prior,” Bea wrote.
They also assured the public that they are doing everything they can to make sure that Ica is receiving the “medical attention and emotional support” she needs.
And from all the judgments and negative comments, they stated, “At this point, she does not deserve our blind judgment and hate….If there’s anything positive that we hope can result from this experience, it is to raise awareness about the stigma of mental health and the growing culture of hate which unfortunately exists in our country’s cyberspace, and collective mind space.”
Furthermore, “My parents just hope all parents can learn from our experience and take this as a wake-up call to be more sensitive with their children’s emotional needs.”
The post also indicated their deep gratitude to those who helped them particularly a certain Manny who found the girl, and officials of Barangay IIB – Kagawad Emma Cervana and Chairman Leonardo Villanueva – who facilitated Ica’s reunion with her family.
“We would also like to publicly thank the netizens who pointed our way to Ica. All our major leads resulted because these courageous individuals had seen our posts on social media, recognized my sister’s face, and contacted us,” says Bea.

Ica Policarpio’s disappearance is good material for a movie like the “Salome” movie of Gina Alajar where there were different versions of what happened to her. Did Ica do the 48-hour challenge with Ate Bea’s knowledge, or is she really mentally unsound and did not exactly know what she was doing, or was she “forced” to doing the disappearing act for “political” or “social” mileage? Kris Aquino or Eugene Domingo can play the part of Ica. They all have this “lost” look.
