Tropical Storm Vinta Intensifies, Signal No. 2 Raised In 4 Areas

Here is the latest update of the tropical storm Vinta.

VINTA – The tropical depression Vinta has reintensified to a tropical storm as it makes its way over the Sulu Sea, says PAGASA on early Saturday, December 23.

According to a report from the ABS-CBN News, the 2 a.m. advisory from the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), strengthened anew.

The tropical storm is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.

Vinta was last spotted in the north northwest of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur in 145 kilometers.

As it is forecast to move 20 kph west, it is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday, December 24.

As Vinta strengthened, tropical cyclone warning signal no. 2 was raised over the following areas:

– Southern Palawan (Brooke’s Point, Rizal, Bataraza, and Balabac)

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 remains hoisted over the following areas:

-Southern Palawan (Puerto Princesa City, Aborlan, Narra, Quezon, and Sofronio Española)
-Zamboanga del Norte
-Zamboanga del Sur
-Zamboanga Sibugay

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Palawan, while light to heavy rain is expected in Bicol, the Visayas, Mindanao, and the rest of Mimaropa within the next 24 hours. PAGASA warned that these could trigger more flash floods and landslides.

The travel through the sea also remained risky in areas under signal numbers 1 and 2, the southern seaboard of the Mindoro provinces, and the western seaboard of Aklan and Antique.

The state weather bureau also warned the residents of the affected areas of possible flooding and landslides.

Vinta had made landfall in Cateel, Davao Oriental as a severe tropical storm at 1:45 am on Friday, December 22.

And in a bulletin issued by PAGASA as of 5 a.m., Vinta now has maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 90 km/h.
