Filipino People Braces For Stormy Christmas

Filipino people in different areas I the country are currently preparing for a story Christmas weekend due to tropical storm Vinta.

On Thursday (December 21, 2017), the local government officials had already prepared the rescue equipment and facilities as Bagyong Vinta moves closer over the Mindanao region.

The residents in the areas under the storm warning signals to prepare packed foods and clothes as the tropical storm threatening to dump rain over the Christmas weekend.

The tropical storm is expected to make landfall over the Davao-Caraga region in the southeast by Thursday evening or Friday morning (December 22, 2017).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Bagyong Vinta would bring rains to the Visayas while the tail-end of the cold front will bring rains to Luzon.

Davao City’s 911 officers have already prepared pump boats, scuba gear, and protective suits for rescue operations. Surveillance cameras were also attached in front of giant screens to monitor the water level in the area.

“Prepared na talaga ang tao natin. Mayroon na ring advise ang ating city disaster na lahat ng barangay, lalo na kapag flood prone ay laging alerto,” Fraz Irag, operations head of the Office of Civil Defense-Northern Mindanao said quoted by ABS-CBN.

Bagyong Vinta was last spotted 510 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur is expected to cross Mindanao to Southern Palawan up to Friday. The weather disturbance was expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Christmas Day.
