Expeditions Discovers 5 Japanese Warships Under The Surigao Strait
A group of expeditioners has discovered at least five Japanese warships under the Surigao Strait, which could boost the tourism in the province.
At least five Japanese warships have been discovered by a group of expeditioners who explored under the Ormoc Bay, Bohol Sea, and the islands in Leyte under the Surigao Strait last month.
The expeditioner were searching for the warships used during the World War II, which leads them to find the five Japanese navy ships including three destroyers.
Paul G. Allen, the Microsoft compounder, and the group of Philanthropies helped the expeditions needing a remote operations vehicle and autonomous underwater vehicle because of the critical location of the warships.
Robert Kraft, Director of Subsea Operations, Vulcan said that the current and depth of Surigao Strait is really beyond the capability of the expeditioners.
Jake Miranda, Chairman, Battle of Surigao Strait Memorial Council was hoping that the Japanese warships discovered in the area would improve the tourism in the province.
National Museum Director Jeremy Barns said that they will start to study of how can they preserve the warships, which is gradually damaged.
Meanwhile, the wreckage of the USS Ward, which fights the Japanese people during the World War II was also discovered in Ormoc Bay.
