Pinay Student Hillary Andales Bags P20M For Winning Global Science Competition

Hillary Andales wins in a global Science competition.

HILLARY ANDALES – The 18-year-old Pinay student Hillary Andales from Leyte is the first from the country to win in a global Science competition.

According to a report from the Inquirer, 18-year-old Hillary Andales won in Breakthrough Junior Challenge (BJC) bagging P20 million worth of cash prizes.

She was able to beat and bested out other 11,000 other students from all over the world in the said annual international science competition.

Students ranging from 13 and 18 years old are qualified to partake in the competition and their video will be accordingly judged in its engagement, creativity, illumination, and difficulty.

Hillary is from the Philippine Science High School-Eastern Visayas Campus as she was able to beat other competitors in her explanation of complicated Relativity and Equivalence of Reference Frames in just a three-minute video.

Being the first Filipina to win at the said competition received the award at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Ames Research Center in California on December 3.

She had received $250,000 worth of college scholarship, $100,000 Breakthrough Prize Lab for her school, and $50,000 for her science teacher.

The competition was founded by the founder of Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, together with Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki, Yuri and Julia Milner.

This is the third year of the competition since founded which aims to inspire students to have a creative thinking in Science.
