9 Grade 6 Elementary Students Got Ill After Dengue Vaccination

At least nine elementary students got ill and high fever over a week after receiving the anti-dengue vaccination a few months ago.

The anti-dengue vaccine is now the center of the health scare in the country after Sanofi Pasteur, the French drugmaker who manufactured “Dengvaxia” explained the negative effects of the vaccine to people who did not have a prior infection.

About 733, 000 public school students received the vaccines, wherein about 10 percent of the children do not have a history of dengue.

In Mabalacat City, Pampanga, nine Grade 6 students of Lakandula Elementary School aging 11-12 years old fall ill over a week after receiving the dengue shots administered a few months ago, according to some reports.

Mayor Cris Garbo deployed health officers to the school after receiving the reports that the students remained absent after having symptoms similar to dengue.

Almira Buerano, the teacher of the students said that it was her first time to see many students fall ill simultaneously.

“One of them developed a fever while attending cl(–foul word(s) removed–) only last Wednesday. The rest have been ill starting a week ago. At least one has remained at San Rafael Hospital while another was brought to an albularyo, but I told the parents to bring the child to the doctor,” Buerano said quoted by Philstar.

Buerano identified the student suffering from illness as Enzo de Leon, the first who get sick, Cirila Tagle, John Levi Leono, Hazel Yumul, Myla Libre, Danica Macasing, Kristine Regala and Kian Soto.

The teacher also explained that the ailing students received their first anti-dengue vaccine when they were in Grade 4, their second shot in Grade 5, and their last shot when they were in Grade 6.
