December 8 Declared As Special Non-Working Holiday
The House of Representatives has already approved the house bill 5241 declaring December 08 as a Special Non-Working Holiday.
December 08 has been declared as a special non-working holiday in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
The holiday has been declared after the House of Representatives approved the house bill 5241 considering December 8 as a special non-working holiday every year.
The Majority Leader and Ilocos Congressman Rodolfo Fariñas who is the author of the bill said that the holiday was declared to give time to devotees in commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“December 8 was declared a holy day of obligation by Pope Clement XI in 1708 for Catholics all over the world, in honor of the holiness and purity of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” Fariñas said quoted by RMN.
Foreign countries including Guam and Malta were also commemorating Feast of the Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary wherein devotees take a day off from their cl(–foul word(s) removed–) and work to observe the date.
However, the house bill might still need the President and Senate’s approval in order to become a law.

This is a religious festivities… The government should not meddle with affairs of religions due to the constitutional provisions of separation of the Church or State… This should be contested in the Supreme Court once it will be p(removed)ed into law. (Just saying)
You’re absolutely right. It would be a partisan law, divisive and highly wanting equality !!
meanwhile muslims festivities already declared as holidays long time ago. it would be fair if they will declared december 8 also as our country is predominantly Catholic and is the third largest Catholic country in the world.
And not everybdy is catholic.
and not everybody is muslim
Nov. 1 (All Saints’ Day) and Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) are also Catholic/Christian events. Do we contest this as well with the Supreme Court?
I don’t think Catholics are the only ones celebrating those events(All Saints Day and Christmas).
Sana ma approve na yan
Sa December 9 daw magdeclare kung special non-working holiday ang December 8. kaya wait na lang kayo sa Dec.9 kung may pasok o wala sa Dec. 8 ???
