Criminal Charges Against Faeldon, 13 Former Customs Officials Withdrawn By DOJ
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has withdrawn the charges filed against former Customs’ Nicanor Faeldon and 13 other customs officials.
On Wednesday (November 22, 2017), the justice department has already cleared the name of former Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon and 13 other ex-customs officials against complaints.
Faeldon and other customs officials were placed on the hot seat after they have been linked to the smuggled P6.4 billion worth of drug shipment from China.
The charges filed against the accused were dropped after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) failed to state the involvement of the customs officials with the illegal activity.
“The eradication of the menace of illegal drugs is one of our pronounced mandates in your DOJ. And the filing of the information in this case is one way to eradicate this threat for the better future of our youth and loved ones,” Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said quoted by CNN Philippines.
Currently, Faeldon was detained at the Senate for missing the hearing regarding smuggling of the multi-billion worth of illegal substance.
The panel of prosecutors also dropped the complaints against the investigators and agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the corporate investors of Hong Fei Logistics, where the 604 kg of illegal drugs were found.
Meanwhile, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee suggests a lifestyle check on Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and Atty. Mans Carpio who were alleged peddling influence at the customs, according to Taguba.
