Mental Health Bill Finally Approved By House Of Representatives

The House of Representatives has finally approved the mental health bill on their final reading to provide national mental health system.

The mental health bill in the Philippines has been unanimously approved by the House of Representatives during the third and final reading of the proposed mental health act after receiving 223 affirmative votes and zero opposition.

The House Bill 6252 or the Comprehensive Mental Health Act aims to provide national mental health system to save lives of people suffering from these conditions.

Mental illness is one of the biggest silent killers in the country taking the lives of innocent people suffering from mental conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, and anxiety, according to Deputy Speaker Rep. Miro Quimbo, one of the bill’s principal authors.

Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin also explained that the mental health bill would help us to address the mental health issues and could also help the Filipino people to improve their well-being.

“Akbayan also lauds the efforts of fellow advocates, champions, and supporters of Mental Health from various sectors, who have consistently and incessantly stood in solidarity with families and individuals struggling with mental health issues. When we stand together, we strengthen each other’s resolve to keep going,” said Villarin.
