‘Bagyong Paolo’ Intensifies To Severe Tropical Storm, PAGASA Says

‘Bagyong Paolo’ intensified into a severe tropical storm.

WEATHER UPDATE – The ‘Bagyong Paolo’ according to an announcement from PAGASA has intensified into a severe tropical storm.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the ‘Bagyong Paolo’ with an international name Lan has already intensified to a severe tropical storm.

As of their bulletin issued at 11:00 AM of 17 October 2017, Paolo intensified as it “continues to move over the Philippine Sea.”

Accordingly, at 10:00 AM today, the location of the eye or the center of Severe Tropical Storm Paolo, based on all available data, was estimated at 765 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.0 °N, 132.7 °E).

Its strength has maximum sustained winds of 90 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

• 96 Hour(Saturday morning):1,035 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes(22.0°N, 131.8°E)

• 120 Hour(Sunday morning):1,375 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR)(26.5°N, 133.7°E)

No tropical cyclone warning signal.

As per the source, the “outer rainbands of #PaoloPH may bring scattered light to moderate with possible occasional heavy rains over Bicol region, Visayas, and Mindanao.”

The amount of rainfall is estimated from moderate to heavy within the 450 km diameter of the Severe Tropical Storm.

In the next 24 to 36 hours, Severe Tropical Storm Paolo has the possibility to intensify into a Typhoon.

Meanwhile, as of 10:00 AM today, October 17, “the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated based on all available data at 395 km West of Coron, Palawan (12.0°N, 116.6°E). This weather system will bring scattered light to moderate with possible occasional heavy rains over Palawan.”
