PAGASA Gives Weather Update On ‘Bagyong Odette’ – October 12, 2017

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) gives the latest weather update on ‘Bagyong Odette’.

Around 5 am on Thursday (October 12, 2017), the state weather PAGASA announced that Tropical Depression Odette has slightly intensified and now heading over the Philippine Sea.

Odette was the 15th tropical cyclone that will hit the country this year. The center of the tropical depression was located at 730 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.5°N, 128.6°E) based on the data gathered by the state weather bureau as of 4 am today.

The cyclone has maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near its center and has gustiness of up to 65 kph. Odette was expected to move West at 26 kph.

Here is the hourly update for Bagyong Odette:

  • Friday (October 13, 2017) – 115 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.6°N, 122.8°E)
  • Saturday (October 14, 2017) – 210 km West Northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur (18.0°N, 118.5°E)
  • Sunday (October 15, 2017) – 650 km West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur (18.3°N, 114.3°E) “Outside PAR”
  • Monday (October 16, 2017) –  1,095 km West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur (18.5°N, 110.1°E) “Outside PAR”

Meanwhile, the weather bureau declared several provinces in Luzon such as Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Isabela, and Cagayan including Babuyan group of islands.

PAGASA also warns of moderate to heavy rain brought by Bagyong Odette and said that the wave height at the open sea could range from 1.25 to 4 meters, which indicates that sea travel remains risky.
