Honeylet Avanceña Invited By US First Lady Melania Trump To Attend New York Event
The United States First Lady Melania Trump has invited Honeylet Avanceña, the wife of President Duterte to attend New York event.
On Thursday (September 21, 2017), Malacañang Palace said that President Rodrigo Duterte’s common-law wife Honeylet Avanceña has been invited by FLOTUS – Melania Trump to attend events at the United Nations General Assembly.
Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella has made the statement and confirmed the personal trip of Honeylet to New York.
“Avanceña is on a personal trip to New York to attend an event upon the invitation of First Lady of the US, Madame Melania Trump,” said by Abella quoted by Rappler.
On Wednesday (September 20, 2017), Melania Trump has attended the UN General Assembly luncheon to give a speech about protecting the rights of the children.
However, Honeylet was not the official First Lady of the Philippines, but she was performing most of the functions reserved for her title for accompanying the president on its foreign trips and welcoming foreign dignitaries and their spouses.
Duterte’s common-law wife has been invited to attend side meetings as part of her advocacy work although she was not a part of the Philippine delegation to the UN General Assembly.
Meanwhile, President Duterte did not attend the summit and remain in the Philippines to monitor the crisis in the beleaguered city of Marawi.
