House panel junks the impeachment complaint against the Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista.
ANDRES BAUTISTA – The impeachment complaint against the chairman of the Commission on Elections Andres Bautista was dismissed, Wednesday, September 20.
The house panel declared that the form of the impeachment complaint is insufficient because of the “defective verification”, a basis used by the committee in previous decisions.
According to a report from the ABS-CBN News, the voting turned out 26-2.
The two votes were from Representatives Harry Roque of Kabayan party-list and Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu, the endorsers.
Also, the Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman emphasized that the committee also junked a complaint against the Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno for the same defect.
Other lawmakers said that the submitted substitute verification by Roque is already that there is a defect as it sought to amend the impeachment.
Ilocos Norte Rep. Rudy Fariñas even stated that the complainant should have been his wife and not lawyer Ferdinand Topacio and former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto Paras.
