Grenade Found Outside UE Manila

The authorities found a grenade in front of the University of the East in Recto, Manila prompting an inspection in the school vicinity.

On Tuesday (August 29, 2017), a street sweeper found a suspicious package in front of the University of the East and immediately reported it to the authorities. The policemen immediately respond and conducted a safety procedure.

The cops from the Manila Police District (MPD) confirmed that the suspicious package contains a grenade inside of it.

Senior Inspector Arnold Santos of the Explosives and Ordnance Division has identified the explosive as ‘MK2 fragmentation hand grenade’. The police officer explained that this type of grenade will not explode without a detonator.

“Hindi siya capable to explode without detonator, ibig sabihin walang detonator, kulang siya. Pero ito’y naka-safety pa, nakata-tape, intact ‘yung kanyang safety pin,” said by Santos quoted by Philstar.

The authorities have already cleared the vicinity and the school premises. However, the MPD is currently working UE to obtain a CCTV footage related the grenade found in front of the university.

The cops were also urging the public to immediately report any suspicious object or event in their location.
