Australia Offers Training For PH Military In Fighting Islamic State Group

Australia has offered to train the Philippine military in fighting the Islamic State extremists spreading terrorism in the country.

On Tuesday (August 29, 2017), Australia announced that they wanted to help the Philippine military through offering a training on how to tackle with the extremists. In fact, they had already deployed two high-tech AP-3C Orion aircraft for surveillance.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has already expressed their willingness to provide further help to the Philippines and they were assisting, advising, and giving training to Iraq.

“We indicated what we have been doing in Iraq. I went through with the president in some detail the support we have given in Iraq that does not include troops on the ground. That is advising and assisting,” said by Bishop quoted by ABS-CBN.

Australia was also a part of the team fighting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. They have a 780 defense personnel based in the Middle East.

Bishop also expressed their concern regarding the presence of the Islamic State group in the southern Philippines, Malaysia, United States, and Indonesia.

On May 23, 2017, the ISIS inspired Maute Terror group has attacked Marawi City after the government forces have raided the hide of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, which prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law throughout the entire region of Mindanao.

Recently, the conflict zone in the beleaguered city of Marawi has been confined to 500 square meters.
