Phivolcs: Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Struck Bohol

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reported that Bohol was struck by a magnitude 5.4 earthquake.

On Thursday (August 10, 2017), the volcanology agency reported that the province of Bohol was struck by a magnitude 5.2 quake around 8:43 am. The tremor was initially measured at magnitude 5.6, which was tectonic in origin.

The seismologists explained that the quake was located at 9.58°N, 124.15°E – 003 km S 24° W of Dimiao, Bohol. The tremor has an estimated depth of 528 kilometers.

As of now, there were no damage or casualties recorded due to the powerful tremor that struck the province, but aftershocks are expected to be felt in the affected area, according to the volcanology agency.

The Bohol quake came after a magnitude 4.6 earthquake has struck the province of Surigao del Sur on Wednesday (August 09, 2017). The seismologists recorded Intensity I in Bislig City and Intensity II was felt in Surigao City.

The two consecutive earthquakes in Surigao del Sur and Bohol causes no damage and no tsunami alert as of this time, but the seismology agency urged the public to expect few aftershocks.
